FAQs

Will a ShotSweeper find every pellet in my gamebird?

No, we cannot guarantee that the ShotSweeper will find every pellet but our field testing has demonstrated that it could find over 90% of imbedded pellets.  The ShotSweeper may find every pellet in your game bird but even if it doesn’t it may find the pellet that was destined to break your tooth. That’s worth its purchase price versus getting a crown or worse yet a root canal and crown.

Will a ShotSweeper detect bismuith or tungsten, components found in commercial shotshells such as HEVI-Shot® or brands marketed under TSS (tungsten super shot) labeling?

A ShotSweeper will not detect pure bismuth or tungsten pellets because they are non-ferrous, meaning that they contain no iron. Hevi-Shot® contains bismuth, tungsten, and steel pellets so a
ShotSweeper will detect the steel pellets because steel contains iron.  TSS is made by blending powdered tungsten, nickel and iron and then molding it under extreme pressure. There was enough iron in the TSS pellets we tested to be detected by a ShotSweeper.

I reload only shells containing bismuth so why do I need a ShotSweeper?

It is true that a ShotSweeper will not detect bismuth pellets but waterfowl and other game birds are known to “carry” pellets after being shot at but not killed.  Research on various species, such as Canada geese, mallards, American black ducks, and canvasbacks, has shown that upwards of 25-28% of sampled birds had embedded pellets.  One study on canvasbacks revealed that 44% of birds carried two or more pellets, with one healthy bird carrying nine pellets!  Further, 63% of the pellets were in the breasts and abdomen, the most consumed part of a bird.  The point is regardless of what type of shotshell you use there’s a very good chance that the bird you harvested may also be carrying one or more pellets that could break your tooth.

I am a upland bird hunter and don’t hunt migratory birds, such as ducks, so why do I need a ShotSweeper?

Non-toxic shotshells are rapidly becoming required to hunt all game birds, including pheasants, quail, and mourning doves, in many states. Even if you hunt migratory birds, other than ducks and geese, such as snipe, non-toxic shot is often required.

Is a ShotSweeper dishwasher safe?

We do not recommend that you place your ShotSweeper in a dishwasher. Heat degrades the magnet strength. Therefore, we suggest you merely wipe down your ShotSweeper with a damp towel or rinse it under warm, soapy water to clean it.

Do you offer a money back guarantee?

Unfortunately, we cannot offer a money-back guarantee.  The main reason is the magnets used in ShotSweepers are extremely powerful and brittle and are always working.  We have extensively field tested ShotSweepers with various users under many scenarios and despite rigid precautions the tool has gotten inadvertently stuck to an unintended object and damaged, with either the magnet shattering or the handle breaking or both.  There are just too many ways for the product to be damaged.  We are confident that when a ShotSweeper is used correctly you will be satisfied with its effectiveness.  That said, if you do damage your ShotSweeper and the magnet remains intact, return it and we will remount it for a fee.
